Our Charities

DAXTONBURY STARTED AS AN END-OF-SEASON PARTY FOR DAX MILLER’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY. THERE WAS ALWAYS LIVE MUSIC AND FOOD AND DRINK AND CHRIS KELLY WAS THE LIFE AND SOUL OF THOSE GATHERINGS. AFTER CHRIS’S UNEXPECTED DEATH IN 2009, IT WAS DECIDED TO EXPAND THE PARTY INTO A FULL-ON FESTIVAL IN ORDER TO RAISE MONEY FOR VARIOUS MEDICAL CHARITIES IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, BUCKS AND BEDFORDSHIRE. THIS YEAR OUR CHARITIES ARE THE FRANCESCA RESEARCH FUND AND MEDICAL DETECTION DOGS.

IN 2016 THE FESTIVAL RAISED OVER £8000 FOR OUR CHARITY PARTNERS AND WE HOPE TO RAISE MORE EACH AND EVERY YEAR. WE CAN’T DO THAT WITHOUT THE HELP OF OUR BANDS, OUR SPONSORS, OUR VOLUNTEERS AND MOST OF ALL WE CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT ALL OF YOU WHO COME TO DAXTONBURY TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. ALMOST EVERYBODY KNOWS SOMEBODY WHO HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY CANCER – WE WANT TO HELP FIND THE CURE FOR CANCER AND TO ENSURE EARLY DETECTION AND TREATMENT FOR THOSE UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO SUFFER.

FRANCESCA RESEARCH FUND

IN AUGUST 2014 FRANCESCA RICHARDSON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH B-CELL NON-HODGKINS LYMPHOMA. AT FIRST FRANCESCA RESPONDED WELL TO THE TREATMENT AND THE TUMOURS SHRUNK AND IN EARLY DECEMBER THE FAMILY WERE TOLD THE LYMPHOMA HAD GONE. BUT LATER THAT MONTH THE PAIN RETURNED AND FURTHER SCANS SHOWED THE TUMOUR HAD RETURNED. AFTER UNDERGOING SEVERAL SEVERE DOSES OF CHEMOTHERAPY THEY WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THAT COULD BE DONE FOR FRANCESCA AND ON THE 29TH JANUARY 2015 SHE PEACEFULLY PASSED AWAY.

IN HER MEMORY THE FAMILY HAVE SET UP A REGISTERED CHARITY TO RAISE MONEY SO THAT FURTHER RESEARCH CAN BE CARRIED OUT INTO PAEDIATRIC NON-HODGKINS LYMPHOMA AND TO HELP SUPPORT THE FAMILIES AND CARERS OF CHILDREN SUFFERING FROM THIS DISEASE. MORE INFORMATION HERE

MEDICAL DETECTION DOGS

MEDICAL DETECTION DOGS USES THE AMAZING POWER OF THE DOG’S NOSE TO DETECT MINUTE ODOUR TRACES CREATED BY DISEASES. BECAUSE DOGS ARE ABLE TO DETECT TINY ODOUR CONCENTRATIONS, AROUND ONE PART PER TRILLION (THE EQUIVALENT OF ONE TEASPOON OF SUGAR IN TWO OLYMPIC SIZED SWIMMING POOLS), THEY ARE POTENTIALLY ABLE TO DETECT DISEASES, SUCH AS CANCER, MUCH EARLIER THAN IS CURRENTLY POSSIBLE. THE PIONEERING WORK OF MEDICAL DETECTION DOGS AT MILTON KEYNES COULD HELP TO SPEED UP THE DIAGNOSIS PROCESS AND IMPACT ON THOUSANDS OF LIVES. MORE INFORMATION HERE
